And from Lousie Beveridge…
One More Hug
Your arms opened wide and your
eyes glazed over as you pleaded for a hug.
My arms reached out and embraced your body.
Security was felt. I was never going to let you go.
How could I?
I just wanted to be your eyes when you could no longer see.
Your lungs when you couldn’t breathe.
I wanted to swap my blood with yours to let you have more of a chance to live.
I embraced harder, careful not to injure your fragile body.
The minutes ticked away and I felt the fear you must feel envelope me,
I began questioning God, why you?
Then I realized that maybe soon your pain would be gone
Soon you would see your friends and be safe in the arms of Jesus.
So as I again hugged closer, I silently whispered.
Let me be your wings when you forget to fly
Let me be the one who is there to dry your tears when you cry
Let me be there when you are confused to help you cope
And if you ask why? I will simply reply….
Because you are my friend.
I gently let you go, my eyes glaze over.
A simple kiss of love I place on your forehead
I stand up, my eyes crying as I walk away.
All you want is one more hug.
