I never would have imagined that getting up at a chilly 6.30am every Wednesday morning to serve milos and toast to over 100 students would be my idea of fun! J But despite being a sacrifice in a sense, it has brought about a lot of joy, and sense of community into these recent autumn months in Mt Waverley SC. Both the students and teachers have poured in to the home eco room and the atmosphere has been superb. Four young people from Syndal Baptist have been helping to set up, serve and clean up, and other students within the school have enjoyed joining in and giving us a hand. Serving breakfast has enabled us to build relationships with many young people whom we would perhaps never come in contact with otherwise. And the teachers appreciate the extra alertness of the students on Wednesday mornings after they’ve been fed! J Pray for this terrific opportunity, that we would not only be able to feed them physically, but also spiritually at some stage.
“LINK” I have been greatly inspired by the student helping me to serve milos. Her name is Emily and she came to me a few weeks ago and suggested that we should have a prayer group at the junior site (the senior campus already has one running). She carefully thought through what she would present to the principal in order to have her permission and then presented it to her on Friday with the confidence and strength of a very godly young woman. We’ve decided to lead the group together, sharing short devotions and praying for every aspect of our school. This will start Friday June 17 and will be called ‘Link’ – linking students with Christian students and linking our school to God. Praise God for Em! “Just not enough time…” I was encouraged yesterday as I sat with a 17 yr old girl who we’re accommodating in one of the YFC houses at present. She was complaining that the 1-2 hours I give her each week, was just not enough. When asked how many hours she wishes I would give her on a Tuesday, she answered “four”. A bit taken aback, I asked her what we would talk about for all that time. She wasn’t sure, but just knew that our time together was special. We’ve had many fantastic talks about God since she has been in our care and I know God is at work in her life. I’m so thankful and encouraged to see it and be a part of it! Pray for Kate and our time together. Thank you for all YOU do to support these young people. I’m blessed because of it. Tammy
